Sidewalk Vending

Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Los Angeles Municipal Code 56.08 states that public access to streets and sidewalks in the City cannot be blocked by obstructions. This includes vending kiosks, even if the vendor has obtained a valid permit.

All vendors in the City of Los Angeles must keep the sidewalk open for pedestrians at all times.

StreetsLA Urban Forestry Division (UFD) is notified by Bureau of Engineering (BOE).

Review

UFD checks for inclusion and accuracy of standard tree notes and provides a bond estimate relative to the number of trees to be planted along a project’s frontage.

Review Completed

StreetsLA receives application and responds to applicant via email or phone. No pre-inspection is required.

Feedback

Corrections may be issued, but generally other departments are not involved. This allows the process to proceed faster than some other types of permits.

Application Approved

Once all revisions are made, the permit is issued.

Application Denied

IED will deny the permit if appropriate conditions are not met.
