What We Do

StreetsLA is the second largest bureau within the Department of Public Works. We are responsible for strategically managing and maintaining much of the infrastructure in the City's public rights-of-way. Our Bureau is responsible both for long term planning and responding to more immediate requests.
StreetsLA’s longer term efforts include:
- Resurfacing the City’s 23,000 lane miles of streets through our Pavement Preservation Program
- Trimming and maintaining our urban tree canopy of 660,000 street trees, the largest of any municipality in the United States
- Working with elected officials and community partners on implementing transformative streetscape projects across Los Angeles
We also receive approximately 200,000 service requests each year, including:
- Repairing potholes
- Responding to tree emergencies
- Enforcing laws and regulations regarding usage of and accessibility in the City’s public rights-of-way
StreetsLA is also responsible for street sweeping, and we are the permitting agency for street vendors and special events.
Everything we do happens in the City’s public rights-of-way, and it is all designed to help YOU, the public.
