Sidewalk & Transit Amenities (STAP) Bus Shelter Program

One of StreetsLA’s most exciting initiatives is the new Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (STAP), which will transform and modernize the experience for the thousands of Angelenos who rely on our local bus system. Beginning in 2024, over the next decade STAP will add more than 3,000 new bus shelters across the City of Los Angeles.
STAP is rooted in a focus on equity and accessibility for the most vulnerable Angelenos. Bus commuters in Los Angeles have an average household income of $18,000 per year, and climate change has impacted the poorest neighborhoods the hardest. With a focus on installing shelters where they’re needed the most, and with 75% of all new shelters including some type of shade structure, STAP will make it easier, safer, and more pleasant for Angelenos to ride the bus – a critical component of our collective work to fight climate change at the local level.
StreetsLA is the lead City agency overseeing implementation of STAP, and is partnering Tranzito-Vector to bring the shelters to life. Please visit the full project website to learn more about STAP and our robust outreach efforts.
