Building Materials Permits
Source
Constituent or their contractor makes direct request to StreetsLA Investigation & Enforcement Division (IED).
Permit Application Submitted
This permit allows StreetsLA to safeguard and protect the public right-of-way and/or public infrastructure.
Application Reviewed
StreetsLA receives application, pre-inspects the location, and communicates findings to the applicant.
Feedback
Commonly, corrections will be issued. Other departments may become involved, often BOE (if there is an A- or B-permit) or LADOT (if they require a traffic control plan).
Application Approved
Once all revisions are made, the permit is issued for a maximum of 60 days.
Application Denied
IED will deny the permit if appropriate conditions are not met for StreetsLA and partner departments.
NOTES: Building Materials Permits are commonly used when construction projects on private property need to make use of public property (usually a sidewalk) in some way, including sidewalk canopies or protective fences. If an applicant has an existing A- or B-Permit from BOE, StreetsLA will not charge them for a Building Materials Permit. This permit would also not apply to a construction trailer within the existing footprint of a project, only if additional public space is required.
