Overload Permits

Constituent or their contractor makes direct request to StreetsLA Investigation & Enforcement Division (IED).
Permit Application Submitted
This permit allows StreetsLA to inspect overloads and ensure safety of public in right-of-way and prevent damage to streets.
Application Reviewed
StreetsLA receives application and responds to applicant via email or phone. No pre-inspection is required.
Feedback
Corrections may be issued and often other departments are involved, specifically California Highway Patrol, LADOT, LADBS and LADWP.
Application Approved
Once all revisions are made, the permit is issued.
Application Denied
IED will deny the permit if appropriate conditions are not met.
NOTES: An “overload” is any load over 8'6" wide or over 65' long, or over 14' tall, or weighs over 80 tons. Overloads are rarely tied to construction activity, perhaps periodically for a crane. These permits are mostly tied to the Port and shipping containers.
